For a desktop support engineer, it's important to have a combination of both hard and soft skills to complete your tasks with ease.
Tell us about your role, and what your day-to-day looks like
I work with a team of enthusiastic desktop support engineers. We provide support to company's employees to ensure the functionality of computers, software and network connections. Support involves troubleshooting, installing and maintaining IT hardware and software systems.
A morning huddle with my team gets the day started. We catch up, assign different tasks to each other, and plan our connects to share the progress and inputs. I love working with the team, it keeps me motivated.
One of my favorite tasks is onboarding new starters in the company. Their excitement and enthusiasm is infectious.
What skills do you think are essential for your role in IT? Which ones did you develop on the job?
For a desktop support engineer, it's important to have a combination of both hard and soft skills to complete your tasks with ease. Problem solving, communication, teamwork and technical skills all help me perform to best of my ability. I take charge of my own development by raising the bar every day to learn a new skill. Spotting potential issues and addressing them effectively using my technical knowledge is the main skill I developed at Preqin.
Why did you decide to work at Preqin?
I could see that the role at Preqin would allow me to contribute both my technical expertise and my people skills. I pride myself on being a great multitasker, so this job is a great fit for me. I feel like I can contribute more and more every day, which not only improves the company's productivity but also helps me develop personally.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Apart from working in my free time, I have a passion for art. I love drawing intricate symmetrical designs. My other passion is space and space exploration, I love learning what exists beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. It's important to me to stay fit and healthy and to maintain a good work and life balance. I enjoy going out with my family and friends for lunch or dinner, or cooking at home for special occasions.
