As the market leader in alternatives research, Preqin stood out as the clear choice when I was looking to move into the industry. It is really rewarding to work on a product that is bringing real value to clients.
How would you describe your role?
I have recently switched roles to work in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) research team and I'm now responsible for updating the ESG Transparency scores, giving insight into the sustainability measures taken by firms in the alternative asset industry. ESG is a relatively new focus area within the industry so it’s an exciting area to be working in.
What has your career trajectory looked like at Preqin?
I started at Preqin in the summer of 2020 in the Private Capital research team and moved across to the ESG research team in July. Joining during the pandemic had its challenges, but it was great to see that internal roles and mobility continued to be promoted, and I was given the support to make the move across. I am now looking forward to learning about this part of the sector and developing my knowledge and experience further.
How have you found transitioning into ESG and what excites you about this topic?
My move across to the ESG team has been incredibly smooth. I was fully supported at every step of the process, which was great. ESG research is such an exciting area to have moved into, and one where the work we are doing will have real positive impact, providing transparency on ESG issues across the investment process. It is an evolving area within alternatives and is turning mainstream. This is reflected in the work we are now doing at Preqin, meeting the demand for ESG insight with high quality data across this space.
What advice would you give to someone who would like to have a career in Research at Preqin?

Why did you join Preqin?
As the market leader in alternatives research, Preqin stood out as the clear choice when I was looking to move into the industry. It is really rewarding to work on a product that is bringing real value to clients and, with ESG, is helping to promote more transparency on sustainable investing. The company culture played a huge role in why I wanted to work at Preqin. While I have worked from home for the majority of my time so far, the team have been welcoming and we have regular social and team meetings. I’m looking forward to enjoying more of this sociable environment as we undertake our flexible return to the office.
What advice would you give to someone who’s interested in learning about FinTech?
FinTech covers such a broad spectrum of industries, find an area that interests and motivates you. There are so many industry webinars and events available so sign up for one of those to learn more.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to play and watch sports, mainly rugby, rowing, and cycling, although I’ll watch almost any sport. I also really enjoy cooking and eating good food, and often spend a Sunday afternoon trying out a new adventurous recipe for friends. I’ve recently started trying my hand at wine tasting so there might be some good pairings in the future.
